Oil painter Rich Onica considers himself predominately a landscape painter preferring to work on location. He finds artistic expression in the various subjects of nature and wildlife but also creates works from a variety of other subjects. A lifelong Michigan resident allows Rich to capture the beautiful wildlife and vistas the State has to offer.
He is an active member of Oil Painters of America (OPA) and has been juried into several regional shows. His work has also been juried into several other national shows and is collected around the country. A love of the outdoors and everything about nature drove Rich to explore “plein air” (outdoor) painting over seven years ago. Since then Rich has attended and has been juried into several plein air events. He is actively involved with and a member of The Michigan Plein Air Painters and Plein Air Painters of Western Michigan. Both of these groups boast accomplished and well known painters as members. Plein air painting has become a great learning tool for Rich allowing him to infuse that knowledge and experience into his studio paintings.
I love the challenges of plein air painting and painting in general. Capturing a moment that elicits a passion in me, and hopefully others is what I strive for in all my work.
